The Fire Services Exemplary Service Medals, established on August 29th, 1985, honour members of Canadian fire departments that have completed 20 years of service, 10 years of which have been served in performing duties involving potential risks, and were employed on or after the date of creation of the Medal.

Receiving such an honour is a testament to exemplary conduct as well as long and outstanding service records for those in high-risk professions.

The award of the Medal of Fire Services Exemplary Service is part of the Canadian Honours System and reports to the Office of the Governor General of Canada.
